Apologies for not responding sooner, but just got back from honeymoon last week and
just catching up on my emails now.
Yes, we were more than pleased with everything at our wedding. The food and service
provided by yourself and the rest of the staff was first class. All of our guests
commented on how good the food was, and the presentation and serving of the food
really fitted in with the way we had set up everything, and tied right in with the
relaxed style of wedding reception we were going for.
We would like to commend how you and your staff, and especially Lee, were able to
organise and facilitate the management of the guests in such a professional and
efficient manner.
We would also like to thank you for helping us out with the extra requests we had,
and nothing was a problem for you. Everything ran very smoothly, that we noticed

My wife and I planned to hold a Naming Service for my son and decided to host it at
our house. I requested a quote from Challas Roast regarding the catering for the
event and was extremely pleased and surprised at the price, range of meats sides and
sauces, the assistance given by the manager Chal and overall package.
On the day Chef John was superb. After setting up his equipment he helped me with
the finishing touches (drinks, furniture, music) he was always on hand and could
instinctively see when I needed assistance with something. A real gentleman and a
credit to the company.
The day was tremendous and everybody had a wonderful time. Everyone loved the food.
The presentation and variety were brilliant, and the more rotund family members had
second helpings.
John had his equipment cleared in no time and again helped out with the tidying up.

If you want something different you must try Challas Roast! At my daughter's 21st
birthday party on 28 June 2014, we had all ages of people present and everyone raved
about the food, atmosphere and service. We had the chicken
and pork spit roast, cooked in South African style. We would not hesitate in
recommending Challas. (Would love to try the hog roast sometime too)

I just wanted to inform you that I have put in the transfer for the remaining

I also wanted to thank you for your company's excellent work this weekend at my
wedding. I apologize for adding an element of stress to your team for having the
reception in such a remote location, but despite their delayed arrival they did
an incredible job helping to set things up and prepare delicious food precisely
on time. My husband's father is from South Africa and he could not have been
happier with the boerewoers. The rest of the guests were converted to boerewoer
lovers as well, as displayed by the fact that there were none left over. I also
appreciate the fact that myself as a vegetarian was well accommodated. The meal
itself was also incredible, I cannot tell you the number of people who said it
was the best lamb they have ever tasted. The sides were delicious as well. My
mom was reluctant to have coleslaw on the menu since she has never been a big
fan, but she loved it. We will be working on trying to match your secret recipe
for awhile. Your staff were professional and helpful, and made the whole process
stress free. My only major goal in planning my wedding was to give my guests a
delicious dinner, and plenty to drink. With your help I definitely accomplished

We booked Challas spit roast for the day after our wedding. The chef John couldn't
have done more for us, in fact he went beyond the call of duty & helped with the
clear-up from the day before in readiness for our 150 guests.
The roast arrived all self-contained with an attractive gazebo. We had the basic hog
roast & green salad with rolls, wraps & sauces - all was fresh & delicious.
Although our guests were a bit late in arriving, it was no problem to hold the roast
up for an hour - we just had to give John 10mins warning to serve.
We would have no hesitation in recommending Challas - the service is friendly &

Challas provided an excellent service when catering for our wedding in May
2013. The staff were very polite, professional and attentive to the guests.
The table was set beautifully and all the extras were provided such as a
large cooler box for drinks and ice. The food was delicious and portion
sizes large. Everyone was well fed. As it was a very small wedding the
atmosphere was very relaxed with no set plan for the sequence of events,
Challas were more than happy to go with the flow of the afternoon.

I booked Challas Roast for my dads 60th birthday and boy was it a treat! The whole
service from start to finish was impeccable, a thoroughly professional operation.
The food was nothing short of spectacular, his own made marinades were a delight and
I am craving them as I write this! There were far too many compliments on the food
from our guests to remember, suffice to say, the Spit was a real hit! Everyone had
more than enough food and there was still a couple of huge trays of left over meat!
Charl was a gent (as well as a character!) and ensured everyone was enjoying the
food, as well as cleaning up a lot of our empty plates (disposable) afterwards, he
really couldn't have done anymore for us!

Just getting my breath back after the hectic weekend, part of which as you know, was having to organise an alternative wedding reception in just two hours. Looking back on anything I have ever organised, there are things that I would change. However I have to say that if I had to do this again, I would change nothing.
With our planned wedding venue unavailable due to snow, it was easy to redirect you to the new venue, even when you were on your way.
Your setup was very impressive and bearing in mind that all the entertainment had to be cancelled, it doubled up as a side show. The food has been commented on by everyone, because of the quality of the meat, the uniqueness of the theme and superb flavours of the sauces, so far removed from the traditional wedding fare of overcooked vegetables, soggy potatoes and leathery meat on cold plates. I was particularly impressed by the short time it took for everyone to be served and the fact that the food was hot. The palm leaf plates really set the food off and the bamboo knives and forks completed the image. The deserts were literally to die for and I am glad we used the leaf boats for serving.
True to your word the bill was exactly as quoted, with no surprise and unexpected additions which wedding venues are famous for.
You probably do not realise how impressed I was that you left the food which had not been used. It was nice to have the meat the next day and it was as delicious cold as it was warm, but I would not have wanted to ask you to leave it. The fact that you left it without being asked, since we had paid for it in the first place, was much appreciated. Again this contrasts with the service at a wedding reception I once attended, in a very well known and expensive venue near Bangor, Co Down, where the staff were very reluctant to serve the wine, only to be spotted, at the end of the meal, heading out the door to the kitchen with armfuls of full bottles of wine.

John's 40th birthday.
From the first phone call inquiring about you catering for this event, you
were totally professional, organized and super friendly.
When you arrived at our house to set up, you were just incredible! Totally
organized, focused and set up the most amazing gazebo, making it the
ultimate setting for a great party.
We do not know where to begin when commenting on the food. It was all
absolutely gorgeous! The pork, beef and chicken were so tasty and tender &
just full of delicious flavours! The spuds were out of this world too. All
salads and rolls were so fresh and totally yummy. Your sauces were amazing
too, I wish I could buy them as there is nothing in Ireland to match the
incredible flavours and tastes.
All our guests raved about the food and most went back for seconds and

We could not have wished for more from caterers than what you produced. You
created a whole experience that was well beyond our expectations.

Our party went very well on Saturday night and Lee played no small part.
He was happy to play along with a joke that was being played on my
nephew which was quite funny. Lee was very friendly and happy to answer
any questions.
My experience with Challas Roast was very good. From my first enquiry to
the day of the party everything was easy, friendly and done with the
least amount of fuss. Lee arrived in good time and worked by himself
only asking for help to carry the spit roaster. He was extremely well
organised and this left us with very little to do.
The food was lovely, well cooked, lots of flavour and nicely served.
Although we had leftovers they were nibbled over the rest of the
evening. We would have no hesitation in using them again or recommending

The Challas Hog Roast team were brilliant from the word go. Our event was very awkward as the numbers and budget kept fluctuating but the guys were great. They emailed through very clear and reasonable quotes within the day of requesting them and were happy to explain any queries I had. The service on the night was brilliant and they even went out of their way to help accommodate extra guests that turned up and tolerated our change of plans/ panic very well!

Our hog roast on Saturday night was perfect.
Better than any I have tasted before. The pork was fabulous, the crackling to die
for, the sauces incredible, Mark was the crowning glory.

(while we were in a bit of a last minute frenzy), patiently
answered the same questions over and over and catered to everyones requests, all the
time with a lovely smile.

The food ,service on the night were excellent.
You arrived early set up prepped everything ,all so fresh and of the best quality
Really enjoyed watching meat roast on spits and sausages and kebabs sizzling on the
barbeque
So much meat excellent value for money , the roasting joints were top quality. No
scrimping on portions.
Guests are still talking about the lamb not forgetting your excellent sauces .
Barbeque sauce was also a favourite as were the sausages.
Chef served up starters prior to the main event. These were the the main topic of
converstion. What are they made from everyone wanted to know. Your secret blend of
spices!
You have assured me your range of spices will be available to purchase online very
soon, I hope you include your sauces Barbeque,curry and apple.Can't wait!
No stress everything taken care of including clearing up afterwards with all garbage
taken away. all leftover food and there was a lot was packaged and wrapped .

From start to finish everything was very professional and organised! The chef on the
day ( Martin ) was amazing and very well organised! This was a 40th birthday party
for my wife and the party was held at home. The chef took care of everything and it
meant we were able to relax and enjoy our evening. I would highly recommend the

detail, helpfullness and enthusiasm to ensure everything they were offering would

he explained exactly what he would be doing, set up his equipment without intruding
on any other part of the party and was very professional as well as friendly at all
times. The presentation and quality of the food was fantastic and all guests were
extremely impressed. AND the best thing about it all was he cleared up meaning there
was no mess and left the remainder of the food for people to nibble on throughout
the evening. All in all it has always been an excellent expereince and I would not

We used 'Challas' to cater for almost 60 people at a birthday party at our house.
Everyone raved about how good the food was. The service was first class too - Mark
arrived with us at 5pm, set up and started to cook the food, served it at 9.30 &
left about 11pm - taking all the rubish, plates & cutlery with him, so no mess & no
worries. We just had to enjoy the party!!!
It speaks volumes that, not only will we definitely use Challas again for large
parties like this, but that many of our guests who were here that night also will!!!

Apologies for taking so long to send in a testimonial but I couldn't let the
occasion go by without saying how impressed we were with Charl. We hired Challas
Roast for a surprise 80th birthday party. Charl arrived as a gale force wind took
hold and I was running round like a headless chicken. I barely spoke to him as I
was so stressed with organising the party but he just got on with it, set up the
gazebo and started cooking. We had ordered a small hog for approx 50-60 people.
Even after 2nds and 3rds we had loads left which we all enjoyed even more the next
day. The flavours were wonderful and everyone raved about the food, my mum
especially loved the coleslaw. I now regard Challas Roast as my 'party piece' and
can't wait for an opportunity to hire them again.

"Anyone who comes and sets up in pouring rain without a grumble has to be a good
thing! Charl may not like our weather but his handling of our meat is second to
none. We had a pre-wedding BBQ at home at the end of August (it did dry up!) and

whom are serious carnivores and there will still be some spectacular Shepherds

This is the second time we have had you cook for a party and second time round was
equally as good as the first time.
We had a baptism/birthday party planned for Sunday and Scot arrived early and
got started as soon as he arrived - rain, wind and the cold would not stop him.
When we all came back from church you could smell the delicious food even at the top
of the road - it was fantastic. Everyone said how much they enjoyed the chicken,
pork and vegetarian fayre - what could be nicer.
We had a hassle free party and were able to spend time with family and friends

We had Challas roast take care of the food for my Mother's 60th Birthday Party. They
were a very professional outfit. The large Spit roast machine with separate barbeque
under a pagoda really added to the overall atmosphere. Everyone commented on how
tender the meat was! It went down very well! A few of us got together the next
day(Sunday) and continued eating the nicely packaged doggy bags from the event!
We were very happy with them and will be using them again when the occasion calls

Everyone enjoyed the event and the food as usual was great, we had the "Hoender
Sosaties" marinated chicken curry skewers with apricot & red onion, Boere wors -
South African style beef sausages with sweet chilli sauce, Pork sausages with home
made marinade, vegetarian skewers with olive oil and home made veggie spices
Coleslaw and Green salad.
There was a great selection of salads and skewers, overall it all looked and tasted
great, we will definitely be using this service again for any future events.

everything. The food was fantastic, as was the service and we had lots of comments

Dear Charl,
When I was planning my wife's 50th birthday I wanted a night to remember. We chose
the venue carefully, invited the right crowd and arranged the music to make sure
everyone would enjoy themselves. That left the catering. What do you give a crowd
that has seen it all before? Well you certainly took care of that! You did surprise
me with the extent of what was available for all tastes - even the veggies. Booking
was simple then your follow up call dispelled any lingering concerns. The rest was
simply a wonderful experience. You arrived on time with the most amazing roasting
machine, tables, dishes and everything required. You then prepared and cooked! The
meat, salads, bread, wraps and all the little extras were all I could have hoped
for. That was not all. When the meal was over and the dancing started you managed to
clear the room of all debris and disappear into the night without anyone noticing.
Excellent feedback from 75 people Charl listing catering very highly on the total
success of the night. We will do business again with your mixed meats . Oh the
dressings.......
